The Superpower I Wanted Would Have Stolen the Best Part

Read on my website / Read time: 4 min

My 10-year-old son asked me a question in the car the other morning that he took very seriously: If I could have any superpower, what would I choose?

I thought about it for a minute, and my answer came quickly. Teleportation, obviously.

I want to get where I’m going now. I don’t want to spend an hour and fifteen minutes in the car dropping kids off at school…only to do it again in the afternoon… 5 days a week…“wasting” twelve and a half hours a week.

How much easier would it be to just grab one kid’s hand, teleport them to school, teleport to the next school, teleport home, and be done with it.

That’s pretty much how I approach everything.

I walk fast. I talk fast. I want to get from Point A to Point B, solve the problem, and shrink the distance between the two as quickly as humanly possible.

It’s probably why I’m a systems person. The more streamlined the process, the less time we waste, and the faster we can get to the thing we actually want. 🙌

But after dropping him off, I started to think about it and realized. If I had that superpower, I would also lose the one-on-one time in the car with each of my kids.

I would have missed the conversation about what superpower I’d choose, which led to what superpower my son would choose, which eventually led to some of the social struggles he’s having at school.

It gave me the chance to encourage him, help him think through what was happening, and offer the kind of advice a mom gives when she wants to protect her kid from making a difficult situation even harder.

The part I wanted to eliminate was the part that gave us the conversation.

The Part Between Point A and Point B Is Where You’re Built

Maybe you know exactly what this feels like in your business.

You can see the version you’re trying to create, the one where you are accepting the trophy (or maybe just giving you a little breathing room again), and you’re tired of being in the awkward middle where things still feel clunky, unfinished, or harder than they should.

You want to skip the learning curve.

You want to skip the experiments that don’t work, the offers that need refining, the clients who teach you what you will and will not tolerate, and the systems you have to rebuild once you understand what your business actually needs.

Believe, I GET it! But what we really need to admit is that “middle part” is doing work in you.

It’s teaching you how to make decisions, how to recognize what matters, how to lead when the answer isn’t obvious, and how to build something that fits the business you are actually creating instead of the one you imagined at the beginning.

You are not required to pretend every frustrating part is enjoyable. Some things need to be fixed. Some delays need to be addressed. Some seasons should end.

But don’t dismiss the entire process just because it isn’t the destination yet.

The skills, relationships, discernment, and confidence you’re building now are part of what will allow you to handle the next version of your business when you get there.

So instead of only asking, “Why am I not there yet?” ask, “What is this season teaching me that I’ll need later?”

(Friend, I am NOT your mindset girl, so the fact that I just typed that almost annoys me a little bit because I hate that it’s true!)

That question doesn’t make the process shorter, but it does make it easier to recognize that you are not simply waiting to become the person who can lead the business you want. You are becoming that person here.

Weekly Challenge

Instead of turning this into another productivity assignment, take a little time to look honestly at your own journey:

  • When you first started your business, what did success mean to you?
  • Where are you today, and what does success actually look like now?
  • How did the journey between then and now shape the version of success you’re living toward?
  • If you could have skipped from Point A to Point B, what would you be disappointed to have missed?

The REfill prompts inside Notion AI Skool will help you work through these questions if you want a little structure for the reflection.

And if you feel like sharing, reply and tell me: What is something that happened along your journey that you’re grateful you didn’t get to skip?
